Empty or FULL!

Empty – are you empty?

As I ran today in the gloomy weather, the Lord revealed to me His glory in more than one way. He showed me He can fill us up with HIS glory. He provides in so many different ways! How did He show up today?

-Waterfalls and roaring water rolling down the mountain creek-

“Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls; All Your breakers and Your waves have rolled over me.” Psalm 42:7

-Ducks in water by a dilapidated bridge-

“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 26.6

-Rocks balancing on each other-

“Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.” I Thessalonians 5:11

-Droplets of water on the limbs-

“He draws up the drops of water, which distill as rain to the streams..” Job 36.27

-Thorn bushes that have a odd sense of beauty

“Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; He who guards his soul will be far from them.” Proverbs 22.5

-Random rocks tucked away in the root system of a tree

“His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones.” Job8:17

-An old rock wall

“I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.” Psalms 40.1-3

-An empty house

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will FILL you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

The empty house was at the end of the run. As I looked at it, I thought about how the house once had life. It is now being gutted for new life. This is the perfect picture of God’s redemption and how He redeems us from our past to give us new life. Eternal life in and with Him!

It also made me think of where we are in our world today. This last year made a lot of us fill gutted. It zapped the life away from us. We felt empty and sometimes still feel empty.

March 7, 2020 I ran a Boston qualifying time after a productive training season. I worked hard for that goal and I made it. I was living on that runner’s high when one week later the world stopped. The world changed. We started living life in a way we all never dreamed would be possible. This led to an empty feeling for most of us. It jolted us. It made us dig deep.

This year has been one of much reflection. One where I know beyond a shadow of a doubt we don’t have to feel empty because we have access to the living water to truly fill us up in these gloomy times. There is sun and a SON that can provide eternal hope for all times.

As God reminded me today during my entire run, there is beauty in the gloominess of life. Jesus! He can provide peace to help us feel full and full of life even in the deepest of despair when we feel empty.

How do I know this? Because HE is the only reason I am making it through this thing called life. This year God has put me in places I NEVER ever thought I would be. And He is providing along the way – if I let Him. That is the key. I have to be willing to let go of the hard stuff and let Him direct me and give me His strength.

This is my story. HIs story of glory. He wants to give! He wants us to ask. He is willing and waiting. We don’t have to be an empty shell because we have access to the gift of LIFE – eternal life. Fullness of His spirit is waiting for all of us!

Acts 2:38
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Do we have eternal eyes?

Do we look at things through the eyes of eternity?

He prepares for us a place! If we have accepted HIM in our hearts we can confidently say: “Our citizenship is in heaven!!”

How comforting is that? It is so very comforting to know Christ is preparing what is good for us…better than any good we could EVER imagine…in our heavenly home! The things we battle in this world are preparing us for our eternal home!

This conjures up all kinds of thoughts for me…Are we looking at life through the eyes of eternity? Are we sensitive to those around us and where their eternal citizenship may lie?

This past week I have had three different people close to me lose loved ones. These loved ones do not have another chance to determine their eternal home. They gained their eternal citizenship last week.  Did they hear the good news?  Are they experiencing the good Jesus has been preparing?  Did someone share with them the saving love of Jesus Christ?

Philippians 3.18-21

For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

John 14.1-4

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”

As I live comfortably with the assurance that my citizenship lies in heaven, am I burdened for those who may not be have that same assurance? My prayer should be as Hillsong’s song Hosanna states:  Break my heart for what breaks yours…

He wants all of us to see Him and fellowship with Him in the place He is preparing – Heaven! Are we reaching out to ensure our neighbors, our loved ones, our co-workers and others will have citizenship in heaven?  What is keeping us from sharing the BEST news ever????

Do we anticipate Christ’s return like teachers/students anticipate snow?

Last night as I was falling asleep thinking ‘snow’…hoping for ‘snow’…wanting ‘snow’…it hit me – Do I think this way about Christ’s return? Do I wait for it? Do I hope for it? Do I anticipate it like I should? Do I live expectantly for His return?

What  does the Lord say to us about Christ’s return in His word? A lot(more than 300 times in New Testament)…but here are a few key scriptures that spoke to me as I searched out the answer for myself:

Do we know when He will return?  Should we be waiting and ready?

Mark 13.31-36

31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.  32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. 34 It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.  35 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping.

John 14.2-3

2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

2 Timothy 4.7-8

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

How are we to live while we wait?

Titus 2.11-4

11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

Why do we wait?

Philippians 3.20-21

20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Revelation 21.4

4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

So, should we anticipate Christ’s return like we(teacherslol) anticipate snow? YES and more so! This gentle reminder from the Lord reminded me we should be living as if Christ could return todaybecause, yes, He can!

S tay focused on the Lord daily…

N ever losing sight of our eternal home…

O pen and willing to share His love with others…

W ith anticipation of HIS return!

Runner’s Passport – I am all in! Are you ALL IN?

IMG_4820

Three weeks from today is the BIG day! I am all in for Boston.  As I think about the phrases – ALL IN and Runner Passport – I think about what that means to me.  It means I will be taking part of the big dance on April 15 in Boston – the 2013 Boston Marathon. Wow! How exciting! I know I have done it before…but it is all so new once again. 🙂  I love it!

It also has me thinking about my salvation.  It reminds me of the BIG day – the day I became part of our Lord’s family – June 11, 1978.  This is the day I received the most important passport ever – my passport to eternity.  At the age of 9 I could say “I am ALL IN!” Now that’s exciting.

The best part about this passport is that anyone can be ALL IN.  You don’t have to qualify.  You don’t have to train by running 60 miles a week.  All you have to do is say “YES, Lord, YES! I believe you are my Lord and Savior and I want you in my heart. I have sinned and I know you died for me and by GRACE you have saved me.”    God loves us! He wants us to have the JOY that surpasses any joy we could have on this earth!

1 John 5:11-13

11 And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.13 I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.

Boston is exciting for me…a dream that once was thought unattainable…now a reality! But eternal life is even more so…EXCITING doesn’t even touch it!  Earlier today I posted this in response to the amount of mileage I am putting in during this point of my training (55-60 miles a week):

Anyone of you could do it…I have NO doubt…it is about a goal and a dream. The author is our Lord and He helps you do things we could only imagine… He is helping me fly.  I started with one foot…1 step and 1 mile at a time.

He can help you do anything…He is our Savior.  He is the one that can help you be ALL IN! He can give you a passport to eternity…All you have to do is have faith and believe!

Romans 3:23

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

John 1:12

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Boston training update:

2013 Mileage – 610.67 miles – I will hit 750 on marathon day! Thank you LORD! For His glory!!!

2013 shoes – On 3rd pair of Brooks Adrenaline

2013 Longest run – 16 miles with next one being 26.2 on April 15, 2013

Fundraising: About $200 short of $5000 goal – I know we will get there! 🙂

Marathon training plan – Hanson’s Marathon Method – working well! The Lord is helping me rock my training.

Praying that on marathon day it all comes together…but major prayer is that HIS perfect will is done on that day and the remaining 3 weeks of training!

This post is dedicated to my father, Frank Taylor.  Today is his 76th birthday.  He, along with my mom, showed us what it meant to live a life with Christ.  His devotion to the Lord and his life serving others for Christ is one I want to emulate.  Thank you dad for introducing me to Christ and helping me understand what it means to be ALL IN with Christ. LYNMW!

God’s timing…once again!

TEAM HOYT-2

Image by Ellery Chen via Flickr

This past Sunday was my last blog entry. I referred to the scripture 1 Kings 19.11-13. God shows up in that still small voice. As I was writing Sunday’s blog on this scripture, my new Run for God friend, Mike, was referring to the same scripture in his Sunday school class. You may be thinking to yourself, “So, what’s the big deal about that?” Here is the big deal…read the email he sent me following his Sunday school class and upon reading my Sunday morning post:

This morning I shared with the small group I teach at Bayside (Nearly/Newly Married) about how God blessed me with having a minute role in your journey to Boston. Told your story as best I could share. Talked about listening to that small still voice. Being obedient even on the smallest things God puts in your mind and lays on your heart. Based it on 1 Kings 19: 11-13. Then just a minute ago…I received and read your latest blog update. WOW!! God is awesome!! You blogged exactly what God told me to talk about this morning. The rest of the story…normally I do a lesson from a book. This morning was breakfast Sunday so we just do a short devotional. Also last Sunday was our normal breakfast week, but we moved it to this Sunday because of Thanksgiving. WOW again.

Mike is the one who told Nancy, to tell me, about Team Hoyt. Thanks to his obedience and listening to God’s still small voice…I am going to be running the 2012 Boston Marathon…and to that I say…Praise the Lord and to God be the Glory!!!

So here is the next step or two or three….feel free to share with anyone!

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade–kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith–of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire–may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. (1 Peter 1:3-9 NIV84)

What is the true goal of our faith? Salvation for our souls! God has shown me over the last couple of days that my journey to Boston is really not about running at all! It is about helping others!

First and foremost, my desire is to point to our Almighty God who got me to Boston! His plan, His purpose, His race!

Secondly, it is to raise awareness for The Hoyt Foundation. The foundation’s purpose is to help integrate handicapped people into everyday activities so they may live fruitful and productive lives.

Thirdly, I am raising $5000 for the amazing organization. On April 16, I will be joining Dick and Rick Hoyt as they run their 30th marathon. There are 40 team members running for the Hoyt Foundation. We are all in this together. We are helping one another like Christ helped us and we are called to do the same.

I am praising the Lord for this amazing opportunity!!! His plan was much bigger than mine! Wow! I am humbled to be part of such an effort. Will you join me?

If so, here is my fund-raising website:

http://www.crowdrise.com/trishnewsom

I have also created a Facebook page to keep everyone updated on our journey…and it is OUR journey! Your prayers and encouragement have gotten me here!

Here is my Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Running-Boston-2012-with-Team-Hoyt/254372467957380

Let’s take this journey together….winning people to the Lord along the way! Sharing His mercy and His goodness with all that will listen!

Running for God…Running for Team Hoyt…Running Blessed!

Trish 🙂
